My Love of Kauai and the sea goes back a long time as
my father was one of the first surfers in California and he learned to surf
from "the Duke". My father loved Hawaii and was one of the best watermen I
have ever met. He surfed, spear fished, swam and appreciated the ocean more
than anyone! He had a very strong love of the ocean and when he died he told
me that he always thought the ocean was endless and we can take what we
want. He knew he was wrong and he said he "had me as a son to figure out how
to fix the problems his generation created". Every Sunday we went to San Onofre which was deemed the California- Hawaiian surf club! I learned all
about Hawaiian history and religion and that was my church. I developed a
very strong connection with the early Hawaiians and their love and
understanding of the ocean. It is my passion to bring back this
understanding.

Help Terry by Donating to fund his research and school outreach: weekly shark awareness outreach to schools in California and Hawai'i; ongoing underwater monitoring of well known surf spots include weekly photos of the reefs. We can see the changes caused by global climate change can and does raise the sea levels. Raising sea levels can cause the waves to break on a different spot on the reef and that may kill the coral and change the way the waves break! We must document this to know what to do in the future. Terry Lilley is currently working as a marine biologist and shark expert with Save Our Seas in Hawai'i and California. Join Terry in supporting his important marine research We must have biologists that educate and inform people of all ages about our amazing ocean creatures and resources!
